Hydrogen-rich mineral water works to inhibit hydroxyl radicals of the Fenton reaction, which are a type of reactive oxygen. The result of this is proven by ESR, the most popular method of examining antioxidant commodities. We asked Dr. Kenji Tazawa for an outline of the experiment.

There are generally four types of reactive oxygen

It is generally said that there are four species of reactive oxygen – hydrogen peroxide, singlet oxygen, superoxide anions, and hydroxyl radicals. Through Fenton reaction measurements, we know that the hydrogen-rich mineral water made by AQUAX/AQUOLIA works to inhibit hydroxyl radicals.

The hydrogen-rich mineral water made by AQUA-FRIENDS has the effect of inhibiting hydroxyl radicals. This fact is supported by ESR inspections. This experiment compares how many artificially produced hydroxyl radicals remain in non-reduced water (normal water) and reduced water ( hydrogen-rich mineral water).

Please look at the monitors below. Large waveforms can be seen in the non-reduced water. These waveforms indicate the existence of hydroxyl radicals in the Fenton reaction.

Next, please look at the monitor for the hydrogen-rich mineral water. Absolutely no waveforms are seen. In short, we have found that almost no hydroxyl radicals exist in the hydrogen-rich mineral water.

Even after three days, the hydroxyl radical inhibition ratio of the hydrogen-rich mineral water remains almost unchanged.

Even when the hydrogen-rich mineral water is boiled or frozen, the hydroxyl radical inhibition the ratio remains almost unchanged.

Measurement method

Measurement apparatus was a JEOL-manufactured ESR unit.
The Fenton reaction was used for the hydroxyl radical generation system. ※No inhibitory effect on hydroxyl radicals was observed in water prior to reduction.

※Reagents: 20μℓ of 0.1mM FeSO4, 200μℓ of sample, 15μℓ of DMPO, 15μℓ of 0.5mM H2O2
